The Double Ninth Festival

Release Time:2016年11月21日Author: Source

‘It’s double ninth again, hard time for reunion…’the same song for the far-away-home people to express their sadness but for the PYP students in our school, this song is filled with happiness.

How come that our PYP students behave differently? Here’s the reason: the PYP got this traditional activity‘mountaineering’ for this festival as usual. For children, it is an interesting function. They had every reason to be happy for bathing in a beautiful scenery which is a lot fun for them. They enjoyed holding hands with their good friends hiking up the mountain, talking, smiling and laughing.

After the second period in the afternoon, the students lined up quickly and set off happily. They knew today is a special day for mountain climbing thus their conversation gradually replacedsinging songs or reciting poetry. They poured out their queries about this festival. They got so excited that I almost lost control of them.

They vied each other for raising questions, such as ‘why do people drink wine on this day?’ ‘why is it called the Double Ninth Festival?’ ‘why don’t we have one day off?’ ‘why didthe poet cry since he was already a gown”? We are still children but don’t cry though we are separated from our mothers?’ ‘ why don’t the poet go home if he was homesick?’Their questions were so naive and creative that some of the teachers could not help but were drawn into this interesting conversation. If one of the teacher failed to explain their questions satisfactorily, they would inviteanother teacher nearby to join their conversation. The trailleft behind them was a trail of laughter and numerous happyspots.

Time flied. When they came back to school, the students were still holding their teacher’s hands, not willing to be parted, even though their teachers would join them again in the self-study in the evening.

I felt enormously excited in this festival since I hadspotted the beauty of nature with my kids and I was acceptedinto their hearts and mind which made us get closer with each other.
